FREE Odeon Ticket Offer from Wowcher Crashes Their Website

Oh dear! WOWcher, after having been in the slow lane in the daily deal race, decided to offer FREE Odeon cinema tickets (with a £1 admin booking fee) to its customers on Friday, 13th May. As befitting with the date, they haven’t had much luck with their campaign as their site has crashed under the weight of the surge in traffic.

Lets face it, deal sites are not the most ethical shops online. Through the last year, we have heard and seen about lots of deals that were not as good as they seem, a big group-buying site pumping up their numbers (now finally fixed), and horror stories of not being able to get any appointment or reservation dates because the deal was too popular.
Group-Buying “Spotlight” Launched by TopTable

A new group-buying site launched today. Well, technically not a complete site, but a new subsection and service of the popular restaurant booking site, TopTable. Named TopTable Spotlight, it aims to allow customers the opportunity to purchase deeply discounted meals at top restaurants throughout London.

In an interesting development of events that wouldn’t seem out of place on April Fool’s Day, there’s currently a “deal” up on Groupon’s Cincinnati page, titled “A Surprise for a Dana from a Greg“. Somewhere, somehow, Greg has managed to get Groupon to host his marriage proposal to Dana – will she accept?

I went to the WOWCher website today to check up to see what deal they have running today, and saw a massive headline saying “CHRISTMAS is CANCELLED”
The gullible fool I am, I thought it was actually some sort of deal at first! Maybe some kind of anti-Christmas party, or The Grinch on DVD.
