Group-Buying “Spotlight” Launched by TopTable

A new group-buying site launched today. Well, technically not a complete site, but a new subsection and service of the popular restaurant booking site, TopTable. Named TopTable Spotlight, it aims to allow customers the opportunity to purchase deeply discounted meals at top restaurants throughout London.

Unlike many of the other group-buying sites, TopTable seems to be sticking true to the original meaning of group-buying, where a certain number of people have to sign up to the deal (i.e.a group) in order for the deal to be activated. Groupon shed that criteria long ago as pretty much all their deals are live and active from the first voucher bought. But TopTable seems to be starting out on the group-buying purist route.

Their first deal, featured today, was for the French restaurant Le Cafe Anglais, based on the upper floors of the Bayswater Queensway shopping centre. I haven’t been there before, but its been around for ages, and I’ve heard that it is pretty good, so its a great start from TopTable.

The deal is for 50% off a £40 voucher that can be used for anything on their menu and has a year’s validity (until 6th January 2012). A pretty good deal for a more than decent restaurant!

Its great that TopTable is getting into the group-buying scene, and it has alot to offer, especially for the foodies among us. They’ve been offering great restaurant deals and dining out offer for ages, and it just seems like a natural extension to their main business.

I’m hoping for more great deals to come from Toptable Spotlight, hopefully some Michelin-starred restaurants, and deals that offer extra value than their already great usual deals!
