This delicious Spanish delicacy is made from pure-bred free-range pigs fed on a diet of special legumes, shoots and autumn fruits. The ham is then air dried for two years to give it its distinctive texture and flavour which is beloved across Spain.
What an unusual deal! A whole leg of Spanish jamon, its the dream for any carnivorous foodie. But is this a good price, for a Jabugo Iberico ham shoulder? Its hard to tell, as its uncertain what the quality of this shoulder is. It might be very fatty, in which case its a poor grade one.
So the quickest comparison I’ve done is to look at the prices that Brindisa are charging, because they’re the experts in Spanish jamon shoulder/legs in London. And the minimum leg they have cost £90 – but weighs a minimum of 7kg, versus this minimum of 4-5kg. Presumably the bigger the leg the better, as there will be more meat to bone ratio for the weight. So taking that £90 as a benchmark, a 4-5kg leg should be around 40% cheaper, around £50-£60.
So this price from Monte Regio, £49 for a 4-5kg Jabugo shoulder ham, seems like an OK price. And a good choice if you don’t want to go all the way and get a massive 7kg+ ham.
